Additional information: Patented under the experimental name “3-29-5” in 2003. A seedling “Gwen”. The tree has an open and widespread growth habit and presents less alternative relationship than that of the “Hass” variety. The season is about the same as “Hass.” The fruits have an excellent taste and tend to oxidize much more slowly than the “Hass” variety. Most of the varieties grown in California belong to the group “Guatemala” or “Mexican” (or a hybrid of both) while Florida grows mostly in “West India”. This is done by weight as a sample of the ripe fruit is taken. First the fruit is weighed, cut open and the seed removed. The seed is weighed and the information obtained as to its shape and whether the flesh adheres to the seed.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Avocados are usually pear round and come in many different shades of green, ranging from light green to almost black when fully ripe. Their carotenoids are well absorbed and easily assimilated by humans due to their high fat content. The most popular type is called Hass avocado, which is round with black skin. They are known to be high in fat and are actually only secondary to olives in oil content between fruits, but avocado oil is high in monounsaturated fatty acids, which is relatively healthy and can actually help reduce blood cholesterol levels.<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
