Additional Information: Originally from Santa Paula, California by J. Nicholas Thille. It was introduced in 1954 from an open fertilized Hass sapling planted in 1946. Good looking, but tends to dry season late indoors. High oil content. taste good. Season July – November. Tall, upright, lively tree with good yields. They are not commercially available. This variety is the parent of the Gwen variety. Most of the varieties grown in California belong to the group “Guatemala” or “Mexican” (or a hybrid of both) while Florida grows mostly in “West India”. Avocados can be eaten raw.<\/p>\r\n<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Avocado Variety of Greece \/ Crete Thille. Avocados are known as nutrient boosters because they allow the body to absorb more fat-soluble nutrients from the foods eaten with them. Avocados also provide the same many essential nutrients as fiber, potassium, vitamin E, B vitamins and folic acid and contain more protein than any other fruit. They are known to be high in fat and are actually only secondary to olives in oil content between fruits, but avocado oil is high in monounsaturated fatty acids, which is relatively healthy and can actually help reduce blood cholesterol levels. Avocados come in a variety of colors, some of which are pictured here.
